Sure , they’re in two different classes, but wow - nearly $55K for a computer.
My parent’s first house was only $38K...

How much of that final price is the software?

Mac Pro pricing has always been straight kookie-dooks. You could buy a base model mac pro and buy these parts after market for a 1/3rd this price, or better. I don’t know who has this kind of money to piss away and this is coming from a place where money to buy high end mac pros has never been an issue.

Multiple irrational numbers in that listing.

1.5TB of RAM!?
What could possibly need such a massive amount of RAM?

I worked for a talent agency in Beverly Hills years ago. They seemed to have no problem spending stupid amounts of money on pre-built computers, and they weren’t even content creators. Anyone with half a brain would buy a base model and do the upgrades themselves, but there's not a whole lot of brains in that industry. Lots of money, yes, but not brains.

Don’t forget the wheels!

Raises hand. Just kidding, I could easily make do with half a tb

Very little:
Looks like less than 1% of the total price.

7 hundred bucks?! American? Holy Crack pipe. Seems like the market for stupid niche stuff is ripe for the picking. Create something cooler than these wheels, charge 300 for them (pocket 200).

Probably someone editing multiple 8K video streams. That's the only thing I could imagine would require that.

Well, I chose the rack- mount version because it was $500 more expensive than the tower, but I forgot about the cost of the wheels. Add $200 to my price to get the proper batshit insane price.

But if you don’t like them get the feet for another $ 300.

I hope at least $700...
I had heard of these wheels but I forgot about them, just like I have no idea what a Bugatti Chiron or BBJ 748 sells for. Some things don’t register in the minds of us working-class schlubs...

Apple’s software is generally very affordable , by the time you buy into the hardware ecosystem the software could be free and they’d never notice.
But if the $500 combined for final cut and logic is too steep, it’s usually really easy to get Education prices (I haven’t been in school for most of a decade, but my .edu email still works, and that’s really all you need).

They’ll find some sucker to pay for it. That’s why they’re one of the richest companies in the world. Their ability to obfuscate value with branding has worked on this untrained masses for years.

This is to some degree true, but it’s still competitive with other workstations, and the Apple tax is not actually that large once you do the numbers.
Say, the CPU. The base (seems to be) the Xeon W-3223 with an MSRP of $749. The top of the the line is a Xeon W-3275M with an MSRP of $7,453. The MSRP price difference is $6,704, and Apple charges you $7,000 to upgrade.
Or here’s an arbitrary workstation ( https://www.velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=335 ) configured with the W-3275 (not the significantly more expensive M), 48GB ram, 8GB video card, and 256GB SSD for $13,364. Apple will sell you the same for only $13,299.
